Inflationary shocks, rising interest rates, sharp declines in equity and fixed income markets, Ukraine-Russia war, the use of gas supplies as an economic weapon, increased risk of fragmentation in Europe, the Covid-zero policy in China, reorganization geopolitics and Brazilian fiscal uncertainty.

These are some of the main events of the first half of the year, considered atypical by our experts, which were analyzed in our monthly webinar.

Among the highlights, there is the sequence of inflationary surprises that led to higher interest rates and the fastest monetary tightening in recent history, increasing the risk of global recession.

“In summary, it was a year of high inflation at levels much higher than the last forty years, with central banks chasing and raising interest rates”, said our strategist Nelson Abrahão, also highlighting the Federal Reserve’s position, the American central bank, which seeks to advance this process in a context of a very heated job market.

The webinar also had the participation of Eduardo Gomes de Almeida, Co-CEO; Fernando Verboonen, Portfolio Manager; and Pedro Hokama, Equity Analyst.
