Turim’s 21st Anniversary

In honor of Turim MFO’s 21st anniversary, we kicked off the celebrations with a series of events in our São Paulo office, promoting rich debates on important current issues. From the 2nd to the 4th of May, panels were held on sustainability, macro scenario, venture capital and equity in Brazil and abroad.

The first panel on the 2nd was mediated by Leonardo Martins Moraes, CIO of Turim, and included the participation of Luiz Otávio Ribeiro, Manager Director and Co-Head of Brazil at General Atlantic, one of the largest Private Equity managers in the world. He shared with us the opportunities and challenges seen in various global sectors and the launch of the manager’s new fund focused on Climate Tech. The second conversation of the day was mediated by Roberta Goulart, Turim’s CSO. She received Plinio Ribeiro, co-founder and CEO of Biofílica Ambipar Environment, for the debate on the evolution and opportunities of the carbon market. Biofílica has been developing forestry projects for the generation of carbon credits since 2008, being one of the pioneers in this sector

On the second day, Nelson Abrahao, Turim’s strategist, spoke with Carlos Viana de Carvalho, Head of Research at Kapitalo Investimentos, and Aurélio Bicalho, partner and chief economist at Vinland Capital. The theme of this panel was about interest rates: the “return to the world of high interest rates” and what the impacts of this will be. Kapitalo and Vinland are renowned asset managers working in multimarket and equity strategies. Rodrigo Louro, responsible for Turim UK, moderated the panel in which Eric Acher, co-founder and CEO of venture capital manager Monashees, where Eric talked about his trajectory in being a pioneer in the venture capital field in Brazil and gave his opinion on the Venture Capital scenario in Brazil and in the world.

Fernando Verboonen, Turim’s Portfolio Manager, started the third day of the event with Carlos Simas and Julio Kogut, partners at Dynamo, a renowned hedge fund from Rio de Janeiro with one of the most traditional equity funds in the country. They talked about their experience with investing in stocks in Brazil, including in times of crisis and inflation. In the last panel, Rodrigo Louro received Ram Parameswaran, founder of Octahedron Capital, to talk about his experience of investing in public and private technology companies, and the current market situation. Octahedron is a San Francisco-based asset manager that invests in companies that drive the world’s internet economy.
